Frequently Asked Questions
VersiFlex isn’t a completely new idea, but it is a new way of applying designs to fabrics that weren’t easy to decorate before. Traditional sublimation works well on polyester, but couldn’t handle cotton T-shirts or canvas tote bags. VersiFlex uses special inks and paper that let you print on cotton with a Sawgrass printer and a heat press. So while the tools are familiar, the way you can use them is expanded and updated.
No. The VersiFlex ink set paired with VersiFlex Light transfer paper and Truepix sublimation paper does not allow for the transfer of white, so we recommend sticking to light, bright and white products. To print on dark colored tees or products, you can use VersiFlex inks with heat transfer vinyl.
Yes, VersiFlex can transfer onto colored materials. However, because the system does not print with white ink, material color matters. For best results, we recommend using light or bright colored fabrics rather than dark or bold colors.
Final results can vary based on the material type, surface finish, and preparation. Testing on a sample piece is always recommended before full production, especially when working with natural materials, where texture, porosity, and color can affect how the design appears.
No. Existing Sawgrass printers that have been used with SubliJet UHD, ChromaBlast, or EasySubli inks are not compatible with the VersiFlex ink set.
VersiFlex uses a specialized ink formulation, and it’s not possible to fully flush one ink type before introducing another. Mixing ink types can lead to inconsistent results and may affect print quality. For best performance and reliability, VersiFlex systems are designed to run exclusively with genuine Sawgrass inks.
No. Sawgrass printers are designed to work exclusively with genuine Sawgrass inks. Using Sawgrass inks helps ensure consistent print quality, reliable performance, and long-term durability of the printer.
Sawgrass inks are formulated to flow smoothly through the print head, reducing the risk of clogs and maintenance issues. They are also produced using strict quality controls to protect the printer from environmental and material-related damage. Using non-Sawgrass inks may void the printer warranty and can negatively impact performance.
Yes. VersiFlex uses specific papers based on the type of material you’re decorating.
For light-colored natural fabrics and uncoated products, VersiFlex inks are used with VersiFlex Light Transfer Paper. For traditional hard and soft sublimation blanks, VersiFlex inks work with Sawgrass TruePix Sublimation Transfer Paper. For other applications, VersiFlex inks are formulated to work with sublimation vinyl, allowing you to apply durable, vibrant designs to a wide range of surfaces.
Using the correct paper ensures consistent results and the best possible output for each application.
VersiFlex is tested to maintain image quality for up to 30 washes. Wash fastness testing was performed following ISO standards using a normal wash cycle and medium heat drying.
For best results and extended durability, we recommend washing finished products in cold water and air drying whenever possible.
Yes. VersiFlex inks can be used with Sawgrass TruePix Sublimation Paper and the appropriate Sawgrass color profiles to print on traditional hard and soft sublimation blanks. When used correctly, there is no significant color difference compared to SubliJet UHD inks.
VersiFlex works best with a heat press that allows you to manually adjust pressure. Different materials and fabric thicknesses require different pressure levels, and having manual control helps ensure consistent, high-quality transfers.
A clamshell or swing-away heat press can both work well, as long as the press provides even heat and pressure across the entire surface. Consistent temperature control is also important to achieve reliable results. For best performance, always follow the recommended time, temperature, and pressure guidelines for each application.
